Three Jaish militants behind Zewan attack, says IGP Kashmir
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range Vijay Kumar on Tuesday said that three militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad including two foreigners carried out yesterday’s attack on a police bus on Srinagar outskirts in which three policemen were killed and 11 others injured.
According to news agency , IGP Kumar while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the wreath laying ceremony of the slain cops-ASI Ghulam Hassan of Top Neel Bharthand Ramban, Shafique Ali (Sgct) of Mamakoti Mahore in Reasi district and Rameez Ahmad, son of Mohammad Amin of Yachama Ganderbal-in Srinagar, said the militants had made an abortive bid to snatch rifles from the cops in the attack during which one of the militants was injured.
The blood trail of the injured militant, as per the IGP, “suggests that the group first fled to Pampore after the attack and then to the Tral area of Pulwama and police is working to track down the group”.
The IGP Kashmir said that the bus ferrying 25 policemen of ARP 9 battalion from Srinagar to police armed complex Zewan was attacked at 6 pm on Monday by the three JeM militants.
“The police men retaliated and didn’t allow militants to snatch weapons,” the IGP said.
About the measures taken by police to prevent such attacks, IGP Kumar said police are maintaining high alert and cops requiring travel from one place to another will be provided bullet proof vehicles. “The attackers had done recee or the area and the attack took place when Road Opening Parties of security forces were withdrawn,” he said.
