3 yrs on, JMC’s CCTVs installation ‘security scheme’ biting dust in files
Launched with much hullabaloo the ‘Safety Scheme’ of Jammu Municipal Corporation is biting dust in files as under the scheme, Closed Circuit Cameras (CCTVs) are to be installed in every household to make the winter capital much secure and safe for the residents.
The ‘Security Scheme’ was announced by the Jammu Municipal Corporation in December 2018 with the aim of making city safe but soon after the launch, the scheme was not visible on ground.
“The launched scheme is almost shelved and despite making people aware on this, it is not being implemented on ground,” sources in JMC said.
Notably, it was planned to install CCTV cameras in installments in every house under the scheme introduced by the Corporation and to execute this mega project, the Municipal Corporation had also signed an agreement with a private company in the year 2019.
“Under this scheme, service centers were planned to be opened in each ward to facilitate the residents in getting the CCTVs installed after filling up a form,” sources asserted.
“After data compilation and the number of applications received, the executing agency was supposed to visit these households and install the CCTVs by giving its control on the cell phones of the house owner,” they added.
“The scheme was surely be a boon for the residents of Jammu as could have provided safety measures and made them feel secure while being away from home,” sources said adding that the Corporation officials claimed the due to an outbreak of the situation in view of revocation of Article 370 and then the COVID pandemic, the project could not take off.
A senior official pleading anonymity said that the cost of CCTV cameras has to be paid by the applicants but the corporation had to get five percent of the income under the agreement with a private player.
“Under the scheme, the company installing cameras has to install an alert system in case of theft or fire in addition to two cameras for Rs.10,000 and the CCTVs have to be installed for an installment of Rs.500 per month,” he said.
The official added that consumers will also get insurance while the system installed will also have an indoor camera with IP address, an outdoor camera, live video conferencing, fire alert, theft alert system, two wireless door alarms, cloud recording besides 20 months warranty.
“The company was also served the notice twice regarding installation of the CCTVs but the scheme, which was shelved due to to unavoidable circumstances, will surely be re-launched soon for the welfare and safety of the residents,” he added.
