J&K sees 6 more deaths, 3499 contracts infection
Like others parts of the country, Covid seems to be unrelenting in Jammu and Kashmir as well, as 3499 fresh cases were reported on Sunday, while six lives were lost due to deadly contagion in past 24 hours. The surge in the cases has also pushed the bed occupancy to 7.1% and the active case load to 15,883 which few months back had dipped below 1000 mark.
Among the deceased two were from Jammu, one from Kathua, while three were from Kashmir division. The new fatalities raised the death toll from the pandemic to 4,567 in the Union Territory. Meanwhile the fresh cases today have pushed the infection count to 3,59,373 across the Union Territory. Out of the fresh cases, 1,210 were from the Jammu division and 2,289 from the Kashmir division of the Union Territory, the officials said. They said Srinagar district recorded a maximum of 614 new cases, followed by 556 cases in Jammu district. There are 15,883 active coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir, while the number of recoveries stands at 3,38,923, the officials said.
Meanwhile, against the availability of 4794 dedicated level 1 and level 2 COVID beds, only 337 (7.02%) are occupied.
Jammu reported 556 cases, Reasi reported 89 cases for today, Udhampur reported 126 cases, Rajouri reported 39 cases, Doda reported 20 cases, Kathua reported 163 cases, Samba reported 112 cases, Poonch reported 67 cases, Kishtwar reported 20 cases while as Ramban reported 18 fresh cases for today.
The first four days of January had recorded daily cases ranging between 165 and 199 while in December the union territory had reported 143 average cases daily. The Jammu district has the highest number of 1,169 fatalities followed by Srinagar with 886 deaths.
On COVID vaccination, 33,419 doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to 1,98,57,038. Till date 5510049 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 8402 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 15883 in isolation and 431568 in home surveillance. Besides, 5049629 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The overall number of people who have recovered reached 3,3, 923 prompting the recovery rate to reach 95.93%. Since the pandemic started, the overall cases in J&K have reached 3,59,373 and the death tolls reached 4,567. Moreover, 470 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 308 from Jammu Division and 162 from Kashmir Division.
Meanwhile, in the wake of self imposed weekend lockdown in Jammu, the city bore a deserted look on Sunday. Only essential and emergency services are being allowed in the markets. As per order wherein complete restrictions have been ordered on non-essential movement during weekends besides, the imposition of daily night curfew from 9 PM to 6 AM. It also says that there shall be strict adherence to Covid appropriate behaviour and defaulter shall be firmly dealt as per laws.
