J&K cases hit new high, hospitalizations creep up

In its highest single-day tally since the pandemic began, the Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday reported 5818 Covid-19 cases.

A total of four deaths were also reported in last 24 hours. Jammu and Kashmir’s previous biggest daily case addition was 5443 cases on May 7 last year, including 3575 from Kashmir region and 1868 from Jammu region.

The positivity rate of the union territory has also surged to 7%, while the bed occupancy rate has also increased 8.32%, as against availability of 4794 dedicated level 1 and level 2 COVID beds 416 are occupied.

Meanwhile, 90 more doctors and paramedics have tested positive in Government Medical College hospital and associated hospitals in last couple days, putting further stain to already stretched resources in the health institutions in winter capital.

Till date 513 healthcare professionals have tested positive in Government Medical College hospital and associated hospitals.

Today also saw massive jump in fresh cases in both the capital cities, as they all broke previous highs by contributing 2876 cases alone out of total 5818.

Jammu today broke the previous day’s record with 1131 fresh infections, while Srinagar today reported 1745 cases. Today’s cases have taken the number of total active cases in the Union Territory to 26,236.

With four more deaths, the death toll in J&K has reached 4,579 and 5,443 fresh positive cases reported on Friday have pushed the tally of positive cases to 372,669. Of the exact number of 372, 669 cases, 234,155 are from Kashmir division and 138,514 from Jammu division.

Today seven more persons have tested positive during targeted sampling at RBI, Trikuta Nagar and Tehsil office Bahu, five at Civil Secretariat, Jammu. While 77 more have tested positive at testing centre Government Girls High School, Gandhi Nagar and 13 at Government Mac Muthi.

Meanwhile the district administration has declared two more micro containment zone today including area near Lane near house number 305 sector E near J&K Bank Sainik colony and lane near house number 122, sector 2, Indira Vihar Old Janipur.

Meanwhile total number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached to 234,155 including 214,908 recoveries and 2,347 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division have reached to 138,514 including 126,946 recoveries and 2,232 deaths. The officials said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 26,236 including 16,900 from Kashmir division and 9,336 from Jammu division. With 1,255 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 341,854 which is 91.73 percent of the total cases.

In Jammu division, 61,330 including 54,395 recoveries and 1,175 deaths are from Jammu district, 12,579 including 11,546 recoveries and 143 deaths are from Udhampur, 11,876 including 11,233 recoveries and 241 deaths are from Rajouri, 8,365 including 7,971 recoveries and 138 deaths are from Doda, 10,231 including 9,518 recoveries and 156 deaths are from Kathua, 7,800 including 7,173 recoveries and 120 deaths are from Samba, 5,015 including 4,871 recoveries and 44 deaths are from Kishtwar, 7,066 including 6,615 recoveries and 103 deaths are from Poonch, 6,283 including 6,087 recoveries and 68 deaths are from Ramban and 7,969 including 7,537 recoveries and 44 deaths are from Reasi.
