Canal Head-Muthi flyover to be ready by next month

To facilitate the smooth vehicular movement vis-à-vis to relieve travelers of frequent traffic jams, the fly over from Canal Head to Muthi will be ready in March while the ongoing expansion work on Jammu-Akhnoor road will also be completed in May.

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) official said that the work of expansion of Jammu-Akhnoor road—considered to be the ‘Lifeline’ to connect Jammu with Rajouri-Poonch districts, will be completed in the month of May.

“The expansion work of a 30 kilometer long road started in the year 2018 and presently about 70 percent of the work has been completed,” said an official.

He said that if all goes well, then the work up to Thati Morh will also be completed by the month of May, adding, “moreover, the flyover from Canal Head Jammu to Ganesh Vihar in Muthi is also expected to be operational by the month of March.”

“At present the work of the flyover and road expansion is going on in full swing,” he said stating further that the flyover was to be completed in December 2021 and the extension work up to Akhnoor was to be completed in March 2022 but due to the delayed land acquisition and power supply on both sides of the road, it got delayed.
“The road work up to Thati Morh will also be completed by May, which will relieve the regular travelers,” he said.
The expansion of Jammu-Akhnoor ‘busy road’ to four-lanning will settle down the problem of frequent traffic jams, he said adding, “the commuters especially those staying in Canal Road, Bakshi Nagar, Paloura, Roopnagar and Muthi localities will be relieved of traffic mess.”
Notably, around 50,000 vehicles daily move on this route.

“Once the Ring Road project will be completed and thoroughly connected, the traffic load of heavy vehicles will also be diverted and the traffic chaos will get automatically settled,” he expressed.

However, he said that with the completion of six-kilometres long flyover on Akhnoor road from Canal Head to Ganesh Vihar Muthi, the vehicular rush will get reduced and the travel time will also be cut short to few hours and reaching Akhnoor from Jammu city will be a 30-minute task thereafter.
