ITMS soon in Srinagar to regulate traffic system

The Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) is mulling to introduce Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) with features such as automatic challans and detention of red lights.

The Srinagar Smart City Limited has floated tenders, of which the last date has been scheduled as of 5th March 2022.

A senior official affiliated with the project, said, “This will be a game-changer for Srinagar city. While the rest of the country is way ahead of us, we are also trying to maintain our speed”.

He added, “The Intelligent Traffic Management System project involves SITC, O&M, and AMC of ITMS for Srinagar has been developed by Srinagar Smart City.”

Adding that he said, the Intelligent Traffic Management System features include adaptive traffic controlling, red light violation, speed violation, zebra crossing violations, CCTV surveillance, and number plate recognition.
“Features also include a parking space status display which will have a variable messaging system, emergency traffic stop which will have a panic button and announcement at specific signals which will have IP-PA system”, the official added.

“Not only that, the features in Intelligent Traffic Management System includes parking space booking app, mobile app for ambulances and fire brigade, he added. The official added that in Srinagar, many a time across the day, people are found passing red lights, which is a clear cut violation”, the official added.
So, under the Intelligent Traffic Management system, he added that the SSCL is mulling to introduce features like automated challans, manual challans, and creating video proofs.

In a tweet, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Chief Executive Officer SSCL, Athar Amir, said, “Intelligent Traffic Management System will be a major technology intervention for Traffic Management in Srinagar city. All junctions will be connected through Srinagar Smart City’s own Srinagar DataNet- the Optic Fibre City Intranet, controlled & hosted at our Integrated Command & Control Centre at HMT.
