Farooq Khan submits resignation to MHA
Advisor to LG of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Khan on Sunday evening submitted his resignation to the Ministry of Home Affairs to take up an important political assignment in view of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per reports, Khan confirmed that he has put in his papers.
Sources disclosed that Khan submitted his resignation after discussions with top BJP leadership. Khan is likely to be given an important political assignment in view of Assembly elections in J&K.
On 13 July 2019, Farooq Khan was appointed as the fifth advisor to the then Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Satya Pal Malik. Following this he was adviser to Lieutenant Governor G. C. Murmu, [31] and then Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
As advisor, his official role is related to “food civil supplies and consumer affairs, social welfare, tribal affairs, labour and employment, youth services and sports, election and Haj and Auqaf” among other things.
Khan was also served as 32nd Administrator of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep between September 2016 and July 2019.
Khan is a recipient of the President’s medals for gallantry, bravery and distinguished service. He has also been given commendations by the Indian Army and other agencies.
Khan joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 26 March 2014, before the 2014 Indian general elections, during a political rally in Hiranagar, Kathua district in the presence of Narendra Modi. In June 2015 he was appointed national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
