Sinha for addressing PRIs issues ahead of PM visit

While the government machinery is in full swing for the preparations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Palli Panchayat of Samba District scheduled for April 24, the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha advocated for settling issues of the Panchayat Members at the earliest during a meeting chaired by him here on Tuesday.

Sources in the administration said that Sinha chaired a security review meeting besides discussing the matters of the Panchayat members at the Civil Secretariat this evening.

The meeting as per sources started at around 4 PM and lasted for more than one hour.

“The Lieutenant Governor has directed the babus to address the issue of liabilities under MGNREGA and infrastructural deficiencies in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs),” sources said adding that Sinha laid thrust on the matters being raised by the Panchayat members time to time ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Jammu will address the country on the occasion of ‘Panchayati Raj Diwas’.

Notably, the Panchayat members deliberated upon the burning issue of non-clearance of MGNREGA liabilities and also alleged that they submitted several memorandums to authorities with regard to liabilities under MGNREGA but nobody has bothered to listen to their concerns.

“Besides settling Panchayat members’ issues on priority, the Lieutenant Governor also reviewed the security scenario across the Union Territory with the top brass of the security agencies attending the meeting,” they said.
The Prime Minister, sources said, is also scheduled to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony of multi-crore industrial projects and will interact with members of the Panchayati Raj Institutions, launch industrial investments, and inaugurate or lay the foundation stones of various development projects on his scheduled visit.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Additional Chief Secretaries, Director General of Police, Special DGPs, Principal Secretaries, Commissioner Secretaries, ADGsP, Traffic Department officials, Deputy Commissioners from Jammu Region participated in the meeting while the police, army and administrative officers from the Kashmir valley, virtually attended the meeting.

It is reliably learnt that Sinha will also be chairing a crucial security review meeting tomorrow focusing on a full security agenda ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.

Chiefs of the IB, RAW, and NIA are also expected to be participating in the meeting.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on April 11 with a high level Central team comprising of senior officers of the Government of India, led by him visited the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally.

Singh said that the choice of Palli Panchayat as the venue of the national level Panchayati Raj Diwas indicates the high priority given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jammu and Kashmir and his government’s focus to strengthen Panchayati Raj Institutions in the Union Territory.
