J&K to see boom in health sector, 400 projects worth Rs.7177 Cr in making
Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness a boom in the health sectors in years to come with around 400 projects worth Rs.7177 crores are in making, some in the pipeline across the Union Territory.
Determined to provide better health infrastructure and medical facilities, the Jammu and Kashmir administration riding on the back of the Government of India is making all out efforts to achieve the goal at the earliest with a mission to give health related facilities to the people at their doorsteps.
“Nearly 400 health projects coming up at a cost of Rs7177 crores are expected to be completed in Jammu and Kashmir very soon including two All India Institutes of Medical Sciences at a cost of Rs.2000 crores,” official sources said.
Sources said that seven new medical colleges at a cost of Rs1595 Cr, ten new nursing colleges at a cost of Rs.60 crores, two cancer institutes, bone and joint hospitals at a cost of Rs.212 crores are also under construction.
Sources further revealed that under the Prime Minister’s Development Package, work on 140 projects at a cost of Rs.881 crores are in full swing besides work on 108 projects has already been completed while the remaining projects are expected to be completed this year.
Similarly, they said that 274 projects were started from the capex budget at a cost of Rs.401 crore and of these, 155 works have been completed.
During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Health and Medical Education Department displayed many achievements apart from these projects while the projects others than health and wellness centres, the department in its exhibition also included Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, health, covid vaccination, TB free campaign.
The Prime Minister appreciated the department, they said.
The Health Department sources said that they were given a target of opening 2029 health and wellness centers in the year 2021-22, but they opened 2209, more than the target, adding, “so far 75,43,933 patients have benefited from these centres and mostly who consulted by telephone.”
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana was launched on December 1, 2018 to provide health insurance coverage to about 5.97 lakh BPL poor families but later, the health scheme started on December 26, 2020 to give benefits of the scheme to every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir, they revealed and said that so far, about 90 percent of the total 20.54 lakh families have been registered with at least one family member to take advantage of the scheme.
“After vaccinating all people above the age of 18 years to protect the against Covid in Jammu and Kashmir, the target of first dose 100 percent and second dose 85 percent in the age group of 15 to 17 years was achieved,” they said adding that at the same time, 71 percent children in the age group of 12 to 14 years, which started on March 16, have got the first dose administered.
Similarly, three districts of Jammu and Kashmir, Anantnag, Pulwama and Kupwara got gold medal for becoming TB free district and Baramulla district got bronze medal.
