LSBNW announces scholarship for Kashmiri Pandit girls
LSBNW Scholarship is dedicated to late Smt. Lakshmi Shuri ( Gaga ji ), the humanitarian and Late Shri Bishembher Nath Wali ( Babu Ji ), the teacher.
This scholarship is open to all Kashmiri pandit girls, who are currently in year 9th in the Jammu region. Our scholarship is to be awarded to any one of the girls, who believe in humanitarian values, which can change Indian society for the better.
Now, the question arises, why our scholarship is for girls only, why not for the boys also? Let us make our point clear. In the beginning, we had decided to make this scholarship for both boys as well as girls but a thought came to our mind that boys are getting more opportunities than girls in life. So, later on, we changed our mind and decided to keep our scholarship exclusively for girls. We believe it will be a life changing opportunity for the selected applicant.
We all know, Kashmiri pandits are scattered all over India. But in this case, we have given preference to Jammu based Kashmiri pandit students, as there is lack of infrastructure and students face a lot of issues in comparison to the students of other states. We want a student under adversity to shine and prosper to show resilience attributes. We want to empower girl students to become top leaders irrespective of facing problems in their daily routine.
Our scholarship is of three-year duration, that will support a student from year10-year12 with complete school fees including tuition, books, uniform etc. and an extra amount of Rs 5000 per month for her personal use for the duration of the scholarship.
The scholarship is not an academic scholarship, it is totally different and above than that. In our society, we can find, many highly qualified individuals, who have reached top echelons but lack basic humanitarian values truthfulness, fairness, kindness, caring, empathy etc. Our scholarship gives emphasis to these attributes above the education qualifications.
We have great expectations from the selected applicant. During the scholarship period, the selected applicant has to study and work hard to become more knowledgeable and farsighted, so that she may be able to write op-ed in any of the leading newspapers of the country to make people of her community know, what she is trying to achieve for the betterment of the society.
Our scholarship is for grass root level change. The reason behind this scholarship is that bursary will provide everything to make life easier for the recipient, while she tries to achieve the main purpose of the scholarship – making positive change to the community.
Our selection committee comprises of five members ( mostly women ), who will thoroughly evaluate the applicants. Selected applicant will be mentored by the selection committee members and her progress will be reviewed every six months. If the selection committee members are satisfied with the progress of the selected applicant, she will be given an opportunity to have interactions with overseas teachers to broaden her outlook in order to achieve the objective of becoming world leader in true sense.
Although, what we are doing is on a small scale, we hope, a little can go a long way.
