Out of 10K coaching centers, only 70 registered in Jammu

Shocking it may sound, but it is true that out of ten thousand coaching centres operating in Jammu division, only 70 of them are registered. In the last four years since 2018 not even a single coaching centre was registered in Jammu and taking note of that the Directorate of School Education Jammu(DSEJ) has given 15 days ultimatum for registration failing which unregistered coaching centres will be shut.

In the Jammu division, coaching centers are even running in single rooms without registration. Recognition will be done only by following the rules during the registration process. As per DSEJ those coaching centers running without adequate arrangements will be closed. Directorate of School Education Jammu has issued an order asking all coaching centers to register or renew within 15 days. The department has already advised the parents not to enroll students in any un-registered coaching or tuition centre. The centres will have to fulfill different criteria to become eligible for the registration.

As per order issued by DSEJ last week stated that it has been observed that a number of tuition/ coaching centers are running in Jammu Division especially in Jammu City without authorization/ registration from the competent authority (i.e. Director of School Education, Jammu as notified vide Govt. Order No. 389-Edu of 2015 dated 05.08.2015) thus violating the norms invogue and in view of the above, the management of all the concerned coaching/ tuition centers who are operating without registration/permission or whose registration has expired are hereby informed through the medium of this notice to get their centers registered with the competent authority (Director School Education, Jammu) within a period of 15 days as required under J&K Regulation of Private Tuition/Coaching Centers Rules 2010 notified vide Govt. order No 435-Edu of 2010 dated 30.04.2010, failing which the necessary action as warranted under law shall be initiated which inter-alia includes sealing of premises etc.

There are around 1000 coaching centers running in Jammu district itself, out of which only 45 centers are registered with the department while others are running in single room accommodation without any registration. One room coaching centers lack basic infra and pose a threat to the safety of the children.

Meanwhile, welcoming the decision to register the coaching centres in Jammu region, All J&K Tutorial Association President Ashok Gupta said that we want to get the registration done, but the government has put some strict conditions, which are difficult for any coaching center to fulfill right now.

Gupta said coaching centers remained closed for two years due to Covid-19 pandemic and moreover most of the coaching centers were running in rented buildings. Those buildings had to be evacuated during the Corona restrictions. The authorities must give us six months to fulfill the conditions and it is impossible to fulfill the different criteria in 15 days time.
