Govt mulls to reform edu sector,25K seats increased in new Degree Colleges

Mulled to reform the education sector, the Jammu and Kashmir government as a part of this exercise has increased 25,000 seats in the newly established 50 Degree Colleges across the Union Territory.

“The education sector is achieving new heights due to the effective implementation of central schemes and projects in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” official sources said.

They said that extensive reforms and infrastructural facilities have been brought in the education sector and this can be gauged with the major boost to this sector witnessed in just the last one year if compared to the works done in the seven decades.

“As many as 25,000 seats were increased with the setting up of 50 new degrees in Jammu and Kashmir while 2500 KG schools have been established and more 2000 are in the pipeline,” sources revealed.

They said that 80,000 children have been enrolled in pre-primary classes in 9000 in the government primary schools.

“Skill development programs will be run in 16 Degree Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir with a focus on value based education, promotion of scientific and technical knowledge, establishing a better environment for education,” they revealed.

A senior official said that the reforms in the education sector in Jammu and Kashmir were made keeping in mind the rapidly changing system as per the requirements and added, “the change in curriculum in colleges and universities is having an impact on the socio-economic condition of Jammu and Kashmir.”

To change the mindset of youth through a value based knowledge system, the department is creating a balance between students and teachers, he maintained.

Recently, the Jammu and Kashmir Governor had said that the universities and colleges have the right to change the curriculum, which affects the socio-economic environment.

“The administration is focusing on providing quality education as well as education to the students of weaker sections of the society,” said Sinha.

Meanwhile the government official further added that under the National Policy on Education, the national level curriculum is being implemented in the states and union territories, “similarly, the courses approved by UGC will be implemented and the J&K will not only implement the National Education Policy but will become at par with the national standards because the policy is capable of all-round development of the students.”
