SED to offer NIELIT courses for class 6th to 12th students
In order to make vocational education more jobs oriented and attractive, the School Education Department (SED) has introduced computer skill and awareness courses for class 6th to 12th students.
The course will be run on a pilot basis in 200 Higher Secondary Schools, High Schools, and Middle Schools where ICT/Computer labs have been established.
An order in this regard has been issued by B.K Singh Principal Secretary to Government, School Education Department.
“Whereas National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), an Autonomous Scientific Society under the administrative control of Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MoE&IT), Gol, has presented a proposal with regard to introduction of computer-based courses from Class 6th to 12th, it reads.
The content of the syllabus of the NIELIT was examined by the JKBOSE to ascertain the feasibility for the introduction of these courses as per the syllabus framed by NIELIT in the existing curriculum of JKBOSE. It was recommended by JKBOSE that the syllabi designed by NIELIT for Computer Skill and Awareness Courses from Class to shall be adopted in totality except Chapter 6 of Class 6th titled “Understanding financial Literacy & e-Governance Services” as the same is also covered in Class, it added.
“Therefore, in order to make Vocational Education more job oriented and attractive, the proposal of the NIELIT was considered by the Department, in consultation with JKBOSE, JKSCERT, and Samagra Shiksha”, it reads.
As suggested by the JKBOSE this course is required to be considered as a Computer course, as 5th Subject in Class 11ål and at par with Computer Science/ IT /IP. However, in the case of Class 6th and 7th and it will be mandatory. The details of the Courses forwarded by NIELIT and JKBOSE, the order reads.
In this regard, it is hereby ordered that the following actions shall be initiated immediately that this course will be run on pilot basis in 200 Higher Secondary Schools, High Schools and Middle Schools (as identified by Project Director Samagra Shiksha and Chairman JKBOSE) where ICT/Computer Lab has been established, it added.
Training of Masters Trainers by NILIET (through SCERT) shall start from 1st of August and preference shall be given to lecturers of Computer Science /IT/IP. The evaluation shall be done by JKBOSE in consultation with NILIET and continuous up-gradation be done as desired, it added.
“Modalities for operationalizing the course and responsibility, to be borne by JKBOSE, SCERT, SAMAGRA SHIKSHA, and NIELIT shall be in form of an MOU, to be signed by SAMAGRA SHIKSHA and NIELIT within a week as discussed. Joint Director, Planning shall be the Nodal Officer for the Project”, the order reads.
