Odisha: Flood-like situation in several districts following heavy rain

Odisha is bracing for a flood like situation in several districts, with the water level of the Mahanadi river is rising swiftly following heavy rain in the catchment of area over last the few days.

Due to rising water in Mahanadi river, many areas of Boudh, Subarnpur, Cuttack have inundated with flood water.

The water level of the Mahanadi river breached the danger mark near Naraj in Cuttack exceeding the danger level of 26.41 metre, whereas the water level of Hirakud Dam is also rising and stood at 625.54 feet in the morning with inflow of water reported at 7,65,858 cusecs per second.

In view of the impending flood, the Special Relief Commisioner Pradeep Kumar Jena has asked collectors of districts concerned to be on high alert and monitor the situation.

He said more water is entering the Hirakud reservoir due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas in Chhattisgarh. Reports said Odisha and Chattisgarh to hold high-level meeting on flood situation this afternoon to review the flood like situation in the Mahanadi river system.
