Now Graduation must for becoming JMC Councillors; as per a resolution passed in the General House Meeting of JMC

Leading the way perhaps to the entire country for contesting the elections the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in a first of its kind initiative has made graduation a must for becoming councilor in the JMC.

The minimum educational qualifications for the councillors contesting elections to the Legislative Council should be graduation at least as per a resolution passed in the General House Meeting of JMC today.

However before the graduation criteria becomes a rule, it has to get approval first from the Jammu and Kashmir government and then followed by the Election Commission of India.

Today in the General House Meeting of JMC today, BJP councillors representing ward number 16, Rajinder Sharma has submitted a resolution today seeking for making it mandatory the graduation qualification is must for a councillors.

“My resolution of any one contesting the JMC elections must be atleast graduate has been passed by the general house today. BJP has shown a new direction to the entire nation”, said councilor Rajinder Sharma.

Now the resolution will be sent to principal secretary to government Housing and Urban Development Department Dheeraj Gupta, who will then forward it to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s office.

The Jammu Municipal Corporation Act will be amended and after such amendments, the Election Commission will take further call.

“EC acts on the basis of the law JMC makes and it will be made by the government and not by the Election Commission of India.

After we send it to the government, then it becomes a base for the executive that the elected representatives have passed this resolution and we must work on it. In fact PM Modi during his address on August 15 has declared that only educated persons should show the public the way”, said Sharma.

Sharma earlier had brought resolution of Building by laws and Tree Authority which were implemented by the JMC.

The resolution was seconded by Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta.

However Congress party councilor Dwarka Choudhary said that the resolution was passed without any discussion or debate in the house.

“In last four years, many resolutions have passed in the house, but most of them have not been implemented by the government. Even the resolution passed earlier has not been implemented by the JMC itself”, he said.
