General Body Election of All India Football Federation set to take place today

The General Body Election of the All India Football Federation is finally set to take place today. The election has been delayed due to multiple factors, such as a delay in drafting the AIFF constitution and the pandemic outbreak until the Supreme Court of India intervened. However, the intervention did not go well and the global body FIFA banned AIFF on the 16th of August. As the Supreme Court transferred the responsibility of daily affairs to the Federation, the election is finally set to happen.

Elections are to be for the posts of one President, one Vice President, one Treasurer and 14 Executive Committee members. For the post of AIFF President, Bhaichung Bhutia will contest against the former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey.

The new AIFF dispensation will have lots on its plate, the foremost task among them being the smooth conduct of the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in October.
