Sensex loses 638 points; Nifty ends at 16,887

The Sensex and the Nifty today witnessed losses of more than one percent. Both indices declined amid a fall in the global share markets. The Sensex closed below 56,800 points while the Nifty settled below the 16,900  level.

The Sensex lost 638 points, or 1.1 percent, to finish at 56,789. The Nifty also plunged 207 points, or 1.2 percent, to end at 16,887.
