Stock Market: Sensex and Nifty witness modest gains in the afternoon trade

The Sensex and the Nifty today witnessed modest gains in the afternoon trade. Both indices gained amid mixed cues from global share markets. The Sensex was trading above the 59,000 mark while the Nifty regained the 17,500 level.

The Sensex rose 160 points, or 0.27 percent, to trade at 59,121. The Nifty also added 36 points, or 0.21 percent, to trade at 17,523.
