J&K sets motion in process for Electric Vehicle policy
A seven members committee has been constituted by the administration for the formulation of an electric vehicle policy for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the order issued by the General Administration Department, the committee shall be headed by the Administrative Secretary, of Housing and Urban Development. “Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a Committee, comprising the following, for the formulation of comprehensive Electric Vehicle Policy for the UT of Jammu and Kashmir’, reads the order.
The other members of the committee include Administrative Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Administrative Secretary, Power Development Department, Administrative Secretary, Transport Department, Secretary Law Justice and Parliament Affairs Department, Director General, Budget and any other member as may be co-opted.
As per the order, the committee must evaluate and suggest measures to promote the electric mobility ecosystem in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir in general and in the twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar in particular.
The committee will analyze the scope of incentives as may be granted for ownership of electric vehicles, including the conversion of existing commercial fleets into electric setups. The committee will also suggest broad contours of the infrastructural requirements for shifting to electric mobility, comparing similar policies/rules of neighbouring states.
Further, the committee will analyze aspects related to road safety associated with the usage of electric vehicles and suggest measures to promote research and innovation as well as skill development in the field of electric vehicles.
Any other aspect, as may be deliberated by the Committee. The Committee shall furnish its report within a period of one month and shall be serviced by the Transport Department.
