Former Gujarat CM Keshubhai Patel passes away at 92

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel passed away this morning. He was 92. His health had deteriorated recently after recovering from Covid-19 last month.

According to Shri Bharat Patel- the son of late Keshubhai, he was admitted to a private hospital this morning after his pulse rate and oxygen level went down, but he couldn’t survive. Keshubhai Patel had served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 1995 and again from 1998 to 2001. He was member of legislative assembly for six times. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Keshubhai Patel.

The President and Prime Minister have expressed condolences over the death of former Chief Minister of Gujarat Keshubhai Patel.

In his message, the President Ram Nath Kovind said, with the demise of Keshubhai Patel the nation has lost a stalwart leader. Mr. Kovind said, Keshubhai’s long public life was dedicated to improving the lives of millions and as a champion of farmers’ causes, he enjoyed extraordinary rapport with masses. The President said, Keshubhai Ji’s dogged determination for social service and commitment to Indian ethos will remain exemplary for all.

In a series of tweets, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, he is deeply pained and saddened. Mr. Modi said, Keshubhai was an outstanding leader who cared for every section of society and his life was devoted towards the progress of Gujarat and the empowerment of every Gujarati. He said, Keshubhai mentored and groomed many younger Karyakartas including me.

Home Minister Amit Shah has also expressed condolence over the passing away of Keshubhai Patel. He said his long public life was devoted to the service of the people of Gujarat.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar has also expressed grief on passing away of senior BJP leader and former Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel. In a tweet, Mr. Javadekar said, Keshubhai died this morning at his private residence in Gandhi Nagar due to heart failure.
