Facial bio-metric attendance introduced for employees at SMC
To bring transparency to the organization, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has formally introduced facial recognition bio-metric attendance for its employees.
The bio-metric attendance has been deployed in the Srinagar Municipal Corporations central office in Srinagar for a start.
It is an important part of the history of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, wherein, facial recognition bio-metric attendance has been introduced for every employee, SMC Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu said.

Adding that he said the most advanced bio-metric attendance has been introduced in the central office while the same will be introduced in ward offices. “The reason behind introducing bio-metric attendance is to bring transparency and efficiency in the corporation”, he said.
Adding that he said it will bring discipline among the employees. All the government departments have bio-metric attendance for employees and now we have done the same. Also, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation will ensure a 100% target for mandatory biometric attendance across all wards and field offices.
I want to tell you that bio-metric attendance introduced by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation is the most advanced system in the state. You won’t see such bio-metric attendance in the region. The biometric system is seamless, perfect and flawless.
Talking about the facial recognition bio-metric attendance system, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation Athar Amir said, “The employees will just have to come in front of the machine and their picture will be captured for attendance”.
The idea behind this is to ensure that all the employees reach the office timely as we have a good number of staff who works in the wards and fields. Also, we want to bring accountability in the corporation, Athar said.
Adding that he said facial bio-metric attendance is mandatory for all employees.
Athar further said, “We have installed as many as 9 bio-metric attendances in central offices of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and there is one on the main gate. The biometric machines will be also installed in ward offices”.
“For field staff, which have no station, we have introduced a geo-fence mobile app. We are pretty sure that facial bio-metric attendance will maintain the attendance of employees and officers and will smoothen the functioning of the corporation and enhance the accountability”, he said.
