Candidate opt to quit exam after asked to remove Janeu in Jammu
A candidate appearing for written test of Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub Inspector (JKPSI) was allegedly compelled to quit the exam on Sunday after he was asked by authorities to remove Janeu-holy thread.
“They misbehaved with me while asking me to remove Janeu or quit the exam. I opted to quit the exam because the holy thread has nothing to do with cheating,” Akhil Dhar of Jammu said
“My name is Akhil Dhar, resident of Jammu and I am Kashmri Pandit,” he said.
He added that today his written test for JKPSI was scheduled in examination center in Bhargav online services at Samba.
“ I reached 9:30 at my examination center and check point at entrance policemen ask me to remove belt, mask as well as handkerchief,” he said.
He informed that as per the instruction of the cops he kept all these things in his parked scooty and then they allowed him to proceed.
“After which another team asked me for Locket and they found my Janeu. They ask me to remove it but I told them this belongs to my religion after which they allowed me,” he said.
“Again another checking was done by staff and I followed all their instruction but they pulled my Janeu and ask me to remove it,” he said.
He said that they ask him to keep it on the ground but he disagrees.
He added that they don’t allow him for exam even several requests and they misbehaved with him.
“I fainted on spot and came back to Jammu without appearing for exam,” he said.
He requested higher authorities to give him one more opportunity and allow Janeu in exams because it has nothing to do with cheating.
It is pertinent to mention here that On December 8, a single bench of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court ordered the cancellation of the processes relating to exams of police sub-inspectors and junior engineers after hearing a petition filed by some candidates over the decision of the SSB to hand over the contract for conducting exams to a ”blacklisted agency”.
However, a division bench of the court stayed the single bench’s judgement the next day, allowing the completion of the examination but restrained the SSB from declaring the results till its final judgement.
