Over 800 villages still deprived of 4G in J&K

Over 800 villages in Jammu and Kashmir are yet to get the facility of high speed internet as these villages still don’t have the provision of 4G internet.

It comes to around 13 percent of total villages in the Union Territory as per the data of the Registrar General of India (RGI) of November 2019.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw while responding to a query in the Parliament on Wednesday.

According to the Union Minister, there were 6,474 villages in Jammu and Kashmir as per RGI Data on November 30, 2019.

“A total of 5,643 villages of Jammu and Kashmir have been covered with 4G facility, while 831 villages still don’t have 4G coverage,” the minister said.

He said that the Government and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) provide telecommunication connectivity in the country in a phased manner. “Government through funding from Universal

Service Obligation Fund (USOF) is implementing various schemes for providing mobile network coverage in all uncovered villages of the country,” he said.
