SF on toes, search ops on across J&K, centre monitoring situation

In the backdrop of the recent twin terror attacks in border district Rajouri, which claimed lives of six civilians including 2 minors, the Security Forces have launched massive search operations across J&K and prompted union government to take strict measures for preventing untoward incidents especially ahead of Republic Day -2023.

Sharing details, officials said that security forces have launched a cordon and search operation in three districts of Jammu region viz Kishtwar, Doda and Rajouri. Moreover, special nakas have been established across the Union Territory to strengthen vigil and detect suspicious movements.

Similarly, the security forces in Kashmir have intensified frisking in key areas to keep eye on nefarious designs.

The security forces launched massive search operation in Muradpur village near Rajouri town after suspicious movement of a person was noticed by villagers.
The sources told that “A girl came out shouting that a person entered her house in Mehta mohalla in Muradpur village following which a villager immediately fired shots in the air from his country-made gun,”

Following the incident, CRPF personnel rushed to the village and conducted a search in and around the house but found nothing, they said.
A villager, Ranjeet Tara, said the girl was preparing food and she came out saying that someone entered her house.

One villager Koushal fired in the air and the intruder fled, he said, adding that it appeared that the suspect escaped from the back side of the house.
Security has been beefed up in the area, the sources said.

Last week, terrorists had targeted Dhangri village in Rajouri killing seven people and injuring many others.

They added that the on specific information regarding the presence of Over Ground Workers in Kishtwar and Doda districts, security forces launched a search operation which was in progress till late hours.

“Search operation is underway by Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police after intelligence inputs about the presence of OGWs in Doda and Kishtwar districts”, said a senior police officer.

They said that Ministry of Home Affairs is monitoring the situation and to curb any untoward incidents have taken various steps including deployment of 18 companies of CRPF personnel. It has also given nod for giving more teeth to the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the shape of the raising more IRP battalions.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up after some miscreants pelted stones at houses of a particular community in Poonch district.

The incident took place in Banch village, they said, adding the pelting of stones created panic among the people.

Police immediately rushed to the spot and security was tightened in the area, the sources said.

There are around 20 families of a minority community in the village, they said.
