Foreign skiers feared trapped under snow as massive avalanche hits Afarwat peak in Gulmarg

A massive snow avalanche hit Afarwat peak at famous ski resort in Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, even as rescue operation has been launched.

Sources said that the avalanche struck near Afarwat peak today afternoon.

He said rescue operation has been launched, however, no report of any casualty has been reported yet.

The official said further details will be shared accordingly.

The Apharwat or Afarwat peak is popular with skiers.

“Avalanche hit the Afarwat peak #HapathKhud at famous ski resort in #Gulmarg.#Rescue operation has been launched by #Baramulla Police alongwith other agencies.

Reports of some skiers being trapped are being corroborated. More details shall follow,” tweeted Baramulla Police.
