Gaza death toll rises to 227, Netanyahu determined to continue bombardment

As the brutal Israel-Palestine hostilities enter the tenth day, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has no intention of putting an end to the violence.

US President Joe Biden discussed the Gaza events with Netanyahu, saying he expected “a significant de-escalation today on the path to a ceasefire.”

However, after the phone call, Netanyahu said “determined” to continue bombarding Gaza until Israel’s “aim is met”. Meanwhile, other diplomatic efforts to bring about a ceasefire failed to make headway.

France says it is working with Egypt and Jordan (Israel’s neighbours) on a new ceasefire resolution, one that China seems to support. Gaza’s death toll on Wednesday crossed 227, including 64 children and 38 women.
