Sonamarg Takes Stride Towards Greener Tourism with Golden Glory Eco Park Cleanup
In a joint effort led by the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) and the “Go Green Sonamarg” initiative by Jammu & Kashmir Eco-Watch, the Golden Glory Eco Park witnessed a significant clean-up drive. The event, supported by various organizations and over 150 citizens, aimed to kickstart the year on an environmentally friendly note.
Named the “Golden Glory Eco Park Cleanup,” this initiative aligns with Jammu & Kashmir Eco-Watch’s New Year’s resolution, aspiring to transform Sonamarg into a cleaner, greener, and plastic-free destination. The cleanup not only contributes to environmental conservation but also promotes responsible and sustainable tourism in line with Earth Day Network – India’s theme.
Scheduled for another cleanup drive at the ‘Thajwas Glacier’ under “Sundays for Sonamarg,” this initiative sets a milestone for restoring Sonamarg’s ecosystem and becoming a model for other tourist destinations in Jammu & Kashmir.
Expressing gratitude to Jammu & Kashmir Eco-Watch, Dr. Alyas Nasir, CEO of Sonamarg Development Authority, emphasized their commitment to making these endeavors fruitful. The collaboration strives to make the region more eco-friendly.
“Go Green Sonamarg” focuses on plastic-free, sustainable, and ecotourism practices. Through Information, Education, and Communication (IEC), the initiative aims to raise awareness about environmental preservation.
Jammu & Kashmir Eco-Watch invites responsible citizens to join hands in restoring the golden glory not only of Sonamarg but across the state, including in Jammu Region. Emphasizing collective responsibility, the organization believes in the power of unity for safeguarding the environment.
