India evacuates nearly 600 people from Kabul so far

India has so far evacuated nearly 600 people from Kabul. India is carrying out the evacuation missions in coordination with the US and several other friendly countries. Our correspondent reports, a small group of Indian officials are coordinating the evacuation mission at the Kabul airport. Another batch of Indians is expected to be brought back from the Afghan capital soon.

India is airlifting its nationals through Dushanbe in Tajikistan and Qatar. The External Affairs Ministry has urged all Indian nationals in Afghanistan requiring assistance to contact its Special Afghanistan Cell immediately. It has set up the Special Afghanistan Cell to coordinate repatriation and other requests from Afghanistan. The capture of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, by Taliban forces on 15 August was the culmination of a military offensive that began in May 2021 against the Afghan government. The capture took place hours after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.
