Civil Aviation Minister seeks personal intervention of CMs of 5 States in expediting airports’ development
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has written to the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar and Chhattisgarh and sought their personal intervention in expediting development of airports.
In the letter, Mr. Scindia has requested them to instruct the concerned officers to initiate action for expediting various matters like land allocation , deposition of funds with Regional Air Connectivity Fund Trust and viability gap fund support for International UDAN operations for strengthening of aviation infrastructure.
Airport Authority of India, AAI has embarked upon development and expansion of airports in the country at a cost of 20 thousand crore rupees in the next 4 to 5 years in order to meet the growing passenger traffic in the country.
In the letter written to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mr. Scindia mentioned that the State Government has already handed over the quantum of land in most of the airports, however, some portion of lands at Tirupati and Kadapa required for extension of runway.
Civil Aviation Minister also drew the attention of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma towards land requirements for Airports at Dibrugarh,Lilabari, Silchar and Jorhat . Writing to the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Mr. Scindia underscored the land requirements at Patna airport for runway extension, Parallel taxi track and considering the provision of 100 per cent viability gap fund support for commencing International UDAN operations from Patna and Gaya.
While writing to the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the Civil Aviation Minister highlighted the matters related to land requirement of 569 acre at Raigarh for development of the airport.
