Jammu Biz Community Upbeat as CM Omar Begins Work From Winter Capital

 In a significant development for the people and business community of Jammu, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah  officially commenced the winter session from the winter capital. This has raised hopes of the revival of the age-old tradition of the “Darbar Move” among the people of Jammu especially the business community.

The Chief Minister’s presence brings renewed focus to Jammu, shopkeepers and business owners eagerly look forward to the opportunities the Darbar Move will bring, hoping it will mark the beginning of a prosperous season.

This seasonal shift has sparked enthusiasm among the city’s shopkeepers, who are hopeful for an uptick in business activity with the increased footfall expected over the coming months.

The Darbar Move, which involves relocating the entire government apparatus from Srinagar to Jammu, is seen as a major economic booster for local businesses, bringing in government employees, officials, and their families to the city of temples.

This influx of people has traditionally led to a vibrant period for the markets, restaurants, and small businesses that thrive on the increased demand for goods and services.

The optimism of the shopkeepers has reached new heights. Many shopkeepers in the bustling areas of Raghunath Bazaar, Residency Road, and Gandhi Nagar are preparing for an increase in sales, with shops fully stocked and displays refreshed.

Speaking to the Associated News Bureau (ANB), the local vendors, particularly those selling winter clothing, regional handicrafts, and daily essentials, are expecting a surge in customer flow as government employees settle into the city and visitors begin to arrive.

“We have been waiting for this move for months,” said Binod Sharma, a shop owner in Raghunath Bazaar.

Sharma said the Darbar Move always brings in more customers and breathes new life into the city’s economy. We are hopeful that this season will be especially good with the Chief Minister here and more events taking place.”

The Darbar Move also brings attention to other sectors in Jammu, such as hotels, transportation services, and local artisans. With government officials and their families requiring accommodation, the city’s hospitality industry expects high occupancy rates.

Furthermore, taxi drivers and local transport providers are preparing for the increased travel demands within the city and surrounding areas, further strengthening the local economy.

According to Abdul Latif, who runs a transport service, “Every year, the winter months bring great opportunities for us with more people needing local transport, especially government officials moving to and from offices. We’re optimistic about what this season will bring.”

The Omar Abdullah led government expressed their support for the business community, indicating that efforts will be made to create a conducive environment for trade and commerce during the winter months.

The city is expected to host several cultural events and fairs, encouraging both residents and tourists to explore Jammu’s heritage and contribute to the local economy.
