J&K Govt Allocates Districts to Ministers for Enhanced Governance

In a bid to strengthen governance and ensure effective coordination across the state, the Jammu and Kashmir General Administration Department issued Government Order No. 2057-JK(GAD) of 2024, allocating specific districts to various Hon’ble Ministers. This move aims to enhance the implementation of developmental programs, improve monitoring of public services, and address district-specific issues efficiently.

The district allocations are as follows: Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Deputy Chief Minister will look after Jammu, Poonch, Anantnag, and Shopian. Similarly, Sakeena Masood Itoo, Minister for Health & Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education, and Social Welfare will look after Kupwara, Srinagar, Kathua, and Samba. Likewise, Javed Ahmed Rana, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs will handle the charge of Doda, Rajouri, Pulwama, and Baramulla.

Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperatives, and Elections will look after Ganderbal, Budgam, Kishtwar, and Ramban. 

Similarly, Satish Sharma, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, and other portfolios has been given the charge of Reasi, Udhampur, Kulgam, and Bandipora.

According to the Associated News Bureau (ANB), the order, signed by Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Sanjeev Verma, IAS, underscores the government’s focus on decentralized governance. The allocated ministers are expected to coordinate with local authorities to ensure smooth delivery of public services and monitor developmental projects in their respective districts.

This strategic initiative is expected to enhance accountability and responsiveness at the grassroots level, bringing governance closer to the people. (ANB)
