Season’s First Snowfall Brings Joy to Kashmir, Stabilizes Temperature

Kashmir capital Srinagar witnessed season’s first snowfall bringing joy among locals and tourists alike. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, received its much-anticipated snowfall, which brought an end to the prolonged dry spell and stabilized the city’s temperature.

The snowfall painted the city in white, creating a mesmerizing view that attracted tourists to the scenic spots around Dal Lake. Tourists were seen enjoying, capturing memorable moments, and admiring the beauty of snow-covered houseboats along the famous Boulevard Road. Many shared their excitement on social media, expressing their delight at experiencing the “magic of Kashmir in winter.”
Local residents, too, welcomed the snowfall with open arms, expressing happiness and gratitude. “This snowfall is a blessing from the Almighty after a long dry spell,” said Abdul Majid, a resident of downtown Srinagar.
Social media platforms were abuzz with netizens thanking the Almighty for the snowfall, which many hoped would replenish water sources and benefit agriculture.
However, the snowfall also brought challenges, particularly on the roads. Slippery conditions created difficulties for drivers, leading to massive traffic jams across the city. Commuters reported long delays as vehicles moved cautiously on snowy roads. “The roads are very slippery, making it hard to drive safely. It’s a beautiful sight, but the traffic situation is frustrating,” said a driver stuck in a jam near Lal Chowk.
Authorities have advised motorists to drive with caution and avoid unnecessary travel on snow-covered roads. Municipal workers were seen clearing snow from major roads, but the slippery conditions persisted, causing disruptions to the usual flow of traffic.
The local meteorological department has forecast intermittent snowfall to continue in parts of the valley, with more accumulation expected in higher altitudes. [KNT]
