Baramulla Tops Apple Production in Kashmir, Shopian and Anantnag Follow

Baramulla has emerged as the top apple-producing district in Kashmir, with a staggering production of 4,94,135 metric tonnes across 25,617 hectares, achieving the highest yield ratio of 19.29 metric tonnes per hectare.
This places it at the forefront of Kashmir’s apple cultivation industry.
Shopian secures the second position with a production of 2,63,677 metric tonnes spread across 21,738 hectares. However, its yield ratio stands at a moderate 12.13 metric tonnes per hectare
Anantnag ranks third, producing 2,61,964.65 metric tonnes across 19,019.88 hectares, with a better yield ratio of 13.77 metric tonnes per hectare compared to Shopian.
Other districts like Kulgam produced 2,12,254 metric tonnes from 18,220.95 hectares, with a yield ratio of 11.65 metric tonnes per hectare.
Pulwama recorded a production of 2,11,209 metric tonnes on 15,917 hectares, achieving a higher yield ratio of 13.27 metric tonnes per hectare.
Similarly, Budgam has produced 1,81,372 metric tonnes on 15,147.35 hectares, yielding 11.97 metric tonnes per hectare.
The central Kashmir Ganderbal being the smallest contributor among the listed districts, with a production of 85,685 metric tonnes from 7,799 hectares and a yield ratio of 10.99 metric tonnes per hectare, has presented opportunities for growth with the adoption of better farming techniques.
The data highlights Baramulla’s dominance in production and efficiency, with its high yield ratio reflecting advanced farming practices or favorable conditions.
The apple industry remains a critical component of Kashmir’s economy, and efforts to improve yield ratios and expand cultivation areas could further enhance the region’s production capacity. (ANB)
