Vomedh Presents the Soul-Stirring Play “Lalleshwari” at Tagore Hall, Srinagar
Srinagar, 2nd August 2025 – A captivating theatrical presentation of “Lalleshwari”, written by Bal Krishan Sanyasi and designed and directed by acclaimed theatre artist Rohit Bhat, was staged today at Tagore Hall, Srinagar. The event was part of the ongoing Saptahik Rangdhara series, and was proudly presented by Vomedh in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Government of Jammu & Kashmir and the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages.
The play delves into the profound life and mysticism of Lalleshwari, the 14th-century Kashmiri saint-poetess, whose verses continue to inspire spiritual seekers and artists alike. Rich in cultural ethos, philosophical depth, and emotional intensity, “Lalleshwari” brought to life the journey of self-realization and transcendence through powerful storytelling and compelling performances.
The cast featured some of the region’s most talented stage artists, including Suman Pandita, Arvin Tickoo, Rakesh Ganjoo, Sushma Kumari, Jameela, and Daizy—each delivering performances that resonated deeply with the audience.
The performance was graced by the esteemed presence of Shri Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, who praised the production for its cultural depth and artistic excellence.
The visual experience was elevated by set and lighting designers Shazi Khan, Tahir, and Kamakshya Dogra, whose thoughtful design transported the audience to the world of medieval Kashmir. The soul-stirring music was composed by Rajesh Khar, with hauntingly beautiful vocals by Pallavi Koul and Shazia Basir, enhancing the emotional fabric of the play.
The narrative thread was masterfully tied together by Ramesh Marratha, who served as the narrator, guiding the audience through the spiritual odyssey of Lalleshwari.
The play received a standing ovation and was widely appreciated for its direction, aesthetic presentation, and cultural significance. It stood as a testament to the richness of Kashmir’s spiritual heritage and the power of theatre in reviving historical narratives.
