Srinagar Baramulla Highway blocked by landslide, traffic restored
Srinagar, KNT: The Srinagar Baramulla National Highway was blocked on Friday after a landslide struck near the Eco Park area of Baramulla, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to commuters. The highway was later restored after debris was cleared from the road.
Officials said a sudden landslide brought down a large volume of mud, stones and debris onto the carriageway, leading to a complete halt of vehicular movement on the busy stretch. The incident caused panic among locals and travellers at the time, though no casualties or injuries were reported.
Soon after the blockage, concerned departments pressed machinery and manpower into service. Road clearance teams worked continuously to remove debris from the highway, while traffic police regulated movement and diverted vehicles to avoid congestion in the affected area.
After the debris was cleared and safety checks carried out, traffic movement on the highway was restored. Authorities said monitoring of vulnerable stretches along the route has been intensified to prevent similar incidents in the coming days. [KNT]
