Traffic advisory for Jan 3: NH 44 slow, Mughal Road closed
Srinagar, KNT: Traffic Police Headquarters J&K on Friday issued a traffic plan and advisory for January 3, reporting slow movement on parts of National Highway 44 and announcing closures of several key routes due to weather conditions.
According to the advisory, slow vehicular movement was observed on NH 44 between Ballanalla, Dewal and Nashri Dallawas due to single lane traffic. Authorities also cited the breakdown of three heavy motor vehicles on the highway as a contributing factor.
Passenger vehicles and light motor vehicles have been advised to prefer daytime travel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway, while operators have been cautioned against night journeys due to potential inconvenience caused by the movement of heavy vehicles between the Nashri and Navyug tunnels. Commuters have also been urged to maintain lane discipline, warning that overtaking and wrong lane driving could lead to congestion.
Subject to fair weather and improved road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles and private cars are allowed to ply on NH 44 from both Jammu and Srinagar sides. Heavy vehicles are permitted from Jammu towards Srinagar after coordination with Traffic Control Unit Ramban.
Security forces convoy movement has also been permitted on NH 44 in both directions, subject to confirmation of road status from TCU Ramban.
Meanwhile, the Kishtwar Sinthan Anantnag road has been closed for vehicular traffic due to fresh snow accumulation. The Mughal Road has also been closed owing to snowfall.
On the Srinagar Sonamarg Gumri road, subject to fair weather and clearance, traffic movement will be regulated. LMVs will be allowed from Srinagar towards Sonamarg between 0800 hours and 1300 hours. No vehicle will be allowed after cut off timings. Motorists have been advised to carry anti skid chains or appropriate tyres.
Traffic Police advised people to undertake journeys only after confirming road status through official traffic control numbers. [KNT]
