Two Vehicles Reported Missing in North Kashmir’s Handwara
Kupwara, KNT: Two vehicles have gone missing from the Qalamabad–Mawar area of Langate in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, triggering police action, though officials have ruled out any security-related angle so far.
According to police, an Alto 800 bearing registration number JK09C-2175, black in colour, went missing during the intervening night of January 18 and 19 from the Qalamabad area. The vehicle belongs to a government teacher, Abdul Gani Sheikh, son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, a local inhabitant of Yahama Qalamabad.
A police official said that a team has been dispatched to the area to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the vehicle. “Searches are underway in and around the area,” the official said, adding that efforts are being made to trace the missing car at the earliest.
Notably, this is not the first such incident reported from the area. Earlier, on November 1, 2025, another Alto car bearing registration number JK09C-2094, belonging to Shabir Ahmad War, son of Abdul Ahad War and an inhabitant of Mawar Bala, had also gone missing.
The incidents initially raised curiosity among locals in view of the prevailing general security measures in the region. However, officials clarified that the matter appears to be a routine vehicle theft case, with no specific security angle established at this stage.
Police said further investigation is underway and efforts are on to trace both vehicles and identify those involved. [KNT]
