Over 23 lakh Jan Dhan accounts opened in J& K
Jammu, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said that over 23.10 lakh bank accounts have been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana across the Union Territory as of November 24, 2025, reflecting continued expansion of financial inclusion initiatives.
According to official data shared by the government, RuPay debit cards have been issued to around 65 percent of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana account holders in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said the issuance of RuPay cards has enabled account holders to access banking services more effectively, including cash withdrawals, digital transactions and direct benefit transfers.
The government said efforts are being made to ensure that remaining account holders are also covered under RuPay debit card issuance, with a focus on improving usage of formal banking channels, particularly in rural and remote areas.
Officials added that strengthening account functionality and promoting digital literacy remain key priorities to maximise the benefits of the Jan Dhan scheme for inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
