Vendors Warned Against Hoarding, Overcharging During Ramzan in Sopore
Sopore, KNT: The Sopore administration on Wednesday intensified market inspections across the town to curb overpricing and ensure the sale of quality commodities during the holy month of Ramzan.
A joint enforcement team from the Tehsildar office Sopore, led by Tehsildar Sheikh Tariq, conducted inspections in several markets to check the quality of essential items and verify whether goods were being sold at government-prescribed rates.
The inspection squad included the Naib Tehsildar and officials from the Food Department, who examined shops and interacted with traders during the drive.
Officials said the aim of the exercise was to protect consumers from overcharging, hoarding and the sale of substandard or unhygienic products, particularly during the fasting month when demand for essential commodities increases.
Speaking on the occasion, Tehsildar Sheikh Tariq said the administration is committed to safeguarding public interests.
“The purpose of this drive is to ensure that goods sold to the public meet hygiene standards and are available at the correct prices. As Eid approaches, we want to make sure the common man does not suffer or get cheated in any way,” he said.
The Tehsildar also warned traders against violating regulations, saying that strict legal action would be taken against shopkeepers found involved in hoarding, overpricing or selling substandard products.
Officials said the administration will continue surprise inspections in the coming days to maintain strict vigilance over market activities and ensure a hassle-free Ramzan for residents of Sopore. [KNT]
