IED Detected, Defused in Shopian, Major Attack on Security Forces Averted
Shopian, KNT: Security forces on Wednesday detected and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said.
The device was found along the Zainapora–Chitargam road in south Kashmir during routine sanitization operations carried out early in the morning.
According to Army, the IED was “apparently meant to target security forces’ vehicles,” indicating a planned attack on patrol movement along the route.
The suspicious object was detected during the search operation and was subsequently examined, following which it was identified as a powerful IED.
A bomb disposal squad was immediately called to the site, and the device was safely neutralized without any damage or casualties.
The road was secured during the operation to ensure safety, and standard procedures were followed to handle the explosive device.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and registered a case under relevant sections of law. [KNT]
