Battery Explosion Suspected After Moving Car Gutted by Fire on Rajouri Road
Rajouri, KNT: A moving car was completely gutted in a fire incident on the Nowshera–Qila Darhal road in Rajouri district on Monday after flames suddenly erupted from the vehicle’s battery section, officials said.
The incident occurred near the Gharat area when the vehicle, bearing registration number JK02BD-3405, was travelling from Qila Darhal towards Nowshera.
Officials identified the driver as Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Jabba Nowshera, who was alone in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
According to officials, flames initially started emerging from the battery area before the battery allegedly exploded, turning the vehicle into a fireball within minutes.
The car was completely destroyed in the blaze and reduced to ashes before emergency teams could fully contain the fire.
Despite the intensity of the flames, the driver managed to escape safely and no injuries or loss of life were reported.
The fire later spread to a nearby forest area, damaging nearly one hectare of land and triggering concern among locals and commuters on the route.
A Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of the Forest Department rushed to the spot soon after the incident and launched firefighting operations to prevent the flames from spreading deeper into the forest area.
Officials said the team succeeded in bringing the fire under control after sustained efforts.
The incident briefly created panic in the area as thick smoke engulfed parts of the roadside stretch.
Authorities said preliminary assessment suggested that the blaze may have originated from the vehicle’s battery section, though the exact cause was being examined. [KNT]
