Huge Cache of Arms and Ammunition Recovered Near LoC in Uri
Baramulla, KNT: Security forces on Tuesday recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a joint operation near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gawalta area of Uri in Baramulla district, officials said.
The recovery was made by troops of the Army’s 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police during a search operation in the area.
According to officials, the seized cache comprised one AK-47 rifle, two MP5 submachine guns, four pistols, 17 magazines, 1,144 live rounds of ammunition and a wire cutter.
The recovery is being viewed as a significant success for the security forces, as the seized weapons and ammunition could have been used for unlawful activities in the region.
Following the operation, police registered an FIR at Police Station Uri and launched further investigations to ascertain the source and intended destination of the recovered arms and ammunition. Officials said efforts were underway to identify those linked to the cache and determine whether it was part of a cross-border smuggling attempt or intended for use by alleged militants operating in the area.
