Security Tightened Across Bandipora After Anantnag Policeman’s Killing
Bandipora, KNT: Security forces have intensified raids, search operations and vehicle checking across north Kashmir’s Bandipora district following the killing of a Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable in a militant attack in Anantnag yesterday.
Official sources said extensive search operations are underway at multiple locations across the district as part of heightened security measures. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, joint teams of security forces have been conducting raids at various places while simultaneously strengthening surveillance to prevent any untoward incident.
As part of the ongoing operations, more than 130 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) have been detained for questioning and verification, sources said. The exercise is aimed at identifying and dismantling militant support networks operating in the region.
Security arrangements have also been tightened across the district, with intensified vehicle checking at major roads, entry and exit points, and key intersections. Security personnel are carrying out thorough inspections of vehicles, verifying the identity of commuters and increasing frisking at busy marketplaces and other vulnerable locations.
Authorities have further enhanced area domination patrols in both urban and rural pockets of the district to maintain a visible security presence. Surveillance at sensitive locations has also been stepped up as part of the precautionary measures.
The heightened security comes in the wake of Wednesday’s militant attack in Anantnag’s Lal Chowk area, in which a police head constable was shot dead, triggering a security alert across Kashmir.
Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel during checking and verification drives, stating that the measures are preventive in nature and intended to maintain peace and public safety.
