50% Of SSB Constable (General Duty) Vacancies To Be Reserved For Ex-Agniveers : MHA

The Ministry of Home Affairs has notified the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Combatised General Duty Group ‘C’ Posts Recruitment Rules, 2026, under which fifty per cent of vacancies shall be reserved for ex-Agniveers for recruitment to the post of Constable (General Duty) in every recruitment year.

The notification supersedes the recruitment rules issued in 2011 for Assistant Sub-Inspector (General Duty), Head Constable (General Duty) and Constable (General Duty) posts. The new rules came into effect from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette on 27th of this month.
According to the notification, recruitment for Constable (General Duty) will be carried out through direct recruitment, deputation, re-employment and remuneration. Ex-Agniveers will also be exempted from the written examination, Physical Standard Test and Physical Efficiency Test.
Recruitment for the vacancies reserved for ex-Agniveers will proceed in two phases. The first phase involves the nodal force conducting recruitment for the 50 per cent vacancies earmarked for ex-Agniveers. The second phase will be an open competitive examination covering the remaining 50 per cent of vacancies, along with any unfilled positions from the first phase.
The notification said candidates from the first Ex-Agniveer batch will receive up to five years’ relaxation in the upper age limit, while subsequent batches will be granted up to three years’ relaxation.
