Basant Bagh Residents Block Road, Demand Restoration of Drinking Water Supply

Srinagar, KNT: Scores of women from the Basant Bagh area of Srinagar on Thursday staged a protest against the persistent shortage of drinking water, blocking the road for nearly half an hour to press for the immediate restoration of the supply.

The protesters said they had been facing acute hardship due to the prolonged disruption in water supply, forcing them to struggle for their daily domestic needs. They urged the concerned authorities to address the issue without any further delay.

The demonstration led to disruption of vehicular movement in the area before a police team from Kral Khud Police Station reached the spot and held discussions with the agitating women.

Police officials assured the protesters that their grievance would be conveyed to the concerned authorities and that efforts would be made to restore the drinking water supply at the earliest.

Following the assurance, the women dispersed peacefully but warned that they would resume their agitation if the issue remained unresolved. [KNT]
