West Bengal Government To Introduce ‘Janatar Darbar’ For Quicker Grievance Redressal

West Bengal government is all set to introduce ‘Janatar Darbar’ (Public Hearing) at government offices to ensure quicker redressal of public grievances. Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal has directed field-level officials from the district to the block level to meet members of the public every Tuesday and Thursday, from 10:30 AM to 1 PM. No prior appointment will be required.

District Magistrates, SDOs, BDOs, municipal commissioners, police officials and other field-level officers have been asked to remain available during these hours. No meetings or official programmes are to be scheduled during this period.
Details of the designated days and timings, along with the officials’ mobile numbers and email addresses, will be displayed at government offices and on official websites.
Officials will also have to record complaints and the action taken on them on the ‘Apnar Sarkar Apnar Pashe’ portal. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms will monitor the implementation and progress of grievance redressal.
The initiative will provide people with an opportunity to approach government officials directly alongside existing online services. The administration believes the system will be particularly useful for people who are still not comfortable with digital platforms.
