Vice President C P Radhakrishnan Calls On Youth To Fight Drug Abuse

Vice President of India C P Radhakrishnan today called upon the youth to take a firm stand against drug abuse and contribute actively towards building a drug-free society.

Addressing students at a programme held at Gauhati University in Guwahati, the Vice President urged the younger generation to remain committed to the fight against drugs. He also administered a pledge to those present to work towards creating a drug-free society.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the value of an educational institution lies not merely in rankings, but in its ability to transform society. He lauded Gauhati University for its contribution to the development of human resources in the fields of education, literature, science and intellectual pursuits.

Appreciating the University’s initiative of translating Tamil literary works into Assamese, the Vice President said he would encourage universities in Tamil Nadu to undertake the translation of Assamese books into Tamil, thereby strengthening cultural and linguistic exchanges between the two regions.

The Vice President also stressed the need to make higher education more innovative and responsive to the changing needs of society.

On his arrival at the venue, Mr. Radhakrishnan was accorded a ceremonial welcome by members of the NCC and NSS. During the programme, he formally released three books – Integrated Development: The Role of the North Eastern Council, Chandra Kanta Abhidhan (Fifth Edition), and Bhupen Hazarika: Hundred Years of a Wandering Song.

The Vice President also laid the foundation stone for infrastructure development projects worth ₹110 crore at Gauhati University.
