The Indian men’s chess team secured an emphatic 3-1 victory over Holland, while the Indian women’s team suffered a shocking defeat to Poland in the fifth round of the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The Indian men extended their perfect run to five consecutive match wins, placing them at the top of the leaderboards alongside Uzbekistan and Germany.

A critical loss by R Vaishali proved costly, as the rest of the squad couldn’t make up the deficit, resulting in a narrow 1.5-2.5 defeat. This loss dropped the women’s team to eighth place, though six rounds still remain to mount a comeback.
