Two Rafiabad Men Die During Sand Extraction in Jhelum; Bodies Recovered After Night in River

Baramulla, KNT: Two young men from Dachanpara village in Rafiabad died during sand extraction in the River Jhelum, with their bodies recovered on Wednesday morning after the incident occurred during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Javid Ahmed Mir, 28, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, and Mohammad Anees Malik, 29, son of Abdul Majeed. Both were residents of Dachanpara in Rafiabad.

According to officials, the two men were extracting sand when they fell from a boat into the river. Their bodies remained in the water overnight and were recovered on Wednesday morning.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated a probe to ascertain the circumstances leading to the deaths. [KNT]
