Son of the soil, singer Ashish Bhat dedicates his hit debut single “Ranjha Miyaan” to the great sufi and spiritual legacy of his motherland
Ranjha miyaan a soulful romantic song released recently has been garnering lot of love and accolades, not just from masses but also from the established singers like Jubin Nautiyal and Vishal Mishra in the music industry. It has been sung by Ashish Bhat who is a Kashmiri Boy and has spent most of his childhood in Jammu.
Speaking to TRN from Mumbai he attributed his success to the knowledge he has received from various gurus at different stages of life. “I grew up listening to folk and sufi music. As a young mind, I was exposed to a lot of kashmiri sufi music, and listening to my guruji, “Swami Kumar Ji Maharaj” was an extreme delight. Adolescence struck and I was awed by the vastness of music. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is my greatest inspiration. My first stint with music was in college. I was singing for my college band. Then when I started working, I continued performing live in Delhi. It took me a while but I eventually landed in Mumbai. I love the city and its vibrancy. There is something for everyone here. I started learning Indian classical music from the maestro Pt. Ajay Pohankar Ji and under his tutelage, I received a whole new perspective on the artform” he proudly recalls.
The song is being praised for its soulful music, meaningful lyrics and beautiful video. And there is a single man behind all three, Rocky Khanna. Rocky is also the man behind the lyrics of “Guncha” sung by Mohit Chauhan and is part of the musical duo “Rocky-Jubin” who have given hits like “Humnava Mere, Hai pyaar kya, and “Aatishbaazi”.
